Animated gif starting with slide one

Hi

We have our students working in powerpoint 2000, they are creating
animated gifs and then putting them into their presentations, however
the animations are starting at slide one rather than when they open the
slide which contains them. This means that they are appearing to 'start'
midpoint on the animation. Is there a way to ensure that animated gifs
only 'begin' their animation when the slide is reached?

Where are they inserting the GIFs? If they insert a GIF on slide 2 then it
will not begin to animate until slide 2 is displayed.

Also, If you are placing the GIF on slide 1, consider moving it to slide 2
and placing a blank "Starter" slide as slide 1. This will give PowerPoint a
chance to load the presentation before starting the animation.

Third, how is the slide being transitioned into. If the slide is shown with
a smooth fade, then the animation and transition will be fighting for CPU
cycles and may not appear as it should.

Post back if none of these solve the problem. .

The lecturer whose class it is says that the duration of slide one
affects how far into the animation slide two has got when it's
displayed; by altering the duration of slide one he can alter the place
in the animation (if he makes slide one exactly the duration of the
animation then it appears to start at the beginning.

Also, If you are placing the GIF on slide 1, consider moving it to slide 2
and placing a blank "Starter" slide as slide 1. This will give PowerPoint a
chance to load the presentation before starting the animation.

Slide ones don't seem to be an issue..

This is not normal behavior (as I'm sure you know).

Could you ask for the GIF and first two slides to be sent to me. Ask if
they would copy the presentation, then delete everything after slide 2 and
anything from slide 1 & 2 that is confidential.
