Andre: Long Zheng article on Backup and Recovery is wrong

Andre hi,

I checked my second vista Ultimate and there is no such item as"Create a
Recovery Disk." I checked my second system, also Vista Ultimate. It is not
there. I have only Backup and Recovery center where I can "Backup file or
your entire computer." or "Restore files or your Entire Computer."

There should be an API somewhere that does it. Could you find out the name
of he exec, please?

I do not have the last option under Maintenance as he claims:

You can find the tool in the "Start menu" > "All programs" > "Maintenance" >
"Create a Recovery Disc".

Create Recovery Disk is not on my menu.

Long Zheng's article:
http://www.istartedsomething.com/20070929/vista-sp1-recovery-disc/

He mentions also recdisk.exe. I could not see this API in windows\system32.
It seems according to Long this exec is a part of SP1. Is it true?

Again, I would like to find the name of the exec that does it.

Many thanks

And thats exactly what I said, you won't be able to make recovery disk from
within the OS until 'Vista SP1', read the original post again.

Sorry, I am not that thorough. Do not have time to read every piece of doc
carefully.

BTW, I finally did RECOVER the whole Vista Ultimate on my computer after
CMOS messages failed to show up.

It appears to be very easy and should be nailed down into everyone: do not
panic.

I have never paid much attention to system backup and recovery, taking
chances being too busy with other things. Now I am a changed man.

OK, this is what I did (mine is DELL GX-280, it may be different in other
machines)

Ctrl + F6 when the very first screen comes up. I held it for about a minute.
The computer kept beeping frantically like crazy. I bit my tong. Then I let
F8 go but kept Ctrl pressed. Blank screen, then all of a sudden, a series of
messages. One of them: restart Windows from the last known successful
startup (or close to it--do not remember the exact wording). That did it.
Soon, after a longer than usual delay during which I almost lost hope the
familiar window appeared with Welcome, etc.

Thanks, your pointer, as always, was very helpful.

Surprisingly, this community forum despite all those trolls drooling poison
has been one of the best sources of practical advice for me.

You are on a black list!

What does it mean in practical terms? That you won't read my posts?
