And I thought it was spyware...

I was having problems with my IE - only could get certain webpages, like
Google, Yahoo and MSN, but not much more - others would fail to load with
"cannot find server" -- sounded like the symptoms of spyware described here
and elsewhere. I spent way too long last night trying to clean things up to
no avail, then noticed that my wife's computer on the same network was having
the same problems... We got a new router and everything works just fine now!
And the good news is, I learned a lot about spyware, and will attempt to keep
the system cleaned up!

Hi kmmca, I have the exact same problems with ie you are describing. My
computers were working fine up until about a week ago. I have a residential
network with 4 computers. Every computer is doing the same thing. My son can
get into aol im, I can't get my email but can go to some sites and not
others. My wife's computer does the same. We have 2 machines with xp pro,
and 2 machines with win 98. I keep up with virus protection and spyware
removal weekly. You mentioned in your reply that changing the router solved
your problem. I was just making sure before I went and purchased a new
router. sincerely, mark

Try just resetting the router (hard reset - break out the manual) before
going to purchase a new one.. That seems a bit extreme for what sounds like
a DNS issue.

Thank-you for the quick response. I have tried everything I can think of.
I've called my cable company, tried the reset button on my router and even
visited the router website. But none of this has helped.

Hi kmmca,

Try reducing the MTU size of the router, if you are able to successfully
connect to sites w/o the router.

Additionally, please follow the steps below to reset the TCP/IP:

1. Click Start, run, type "cmd" (with out quotation marks) and click OK.
2. In the DOS window, type the below command and hit enter.

netsh int ip reset c:\Changes.log
