an unknown error again and again and again

I have followed the instructions given elsewhere to reset mail's database
when I get the unknown error after an email refuses to delete - only thing is
I have now done it 3 times and it seems that every day another email gets
added that refuses to delete.

It's a recurring probblem - I'd suggest Windows Mail is not fit for purpose.

Bikeman,

I and several other people have had the same problem. Go to

www.oehelp.com/wmutil

and download Steve Cochran's utility. Then use the utility (after
unzipping) to compact your e-mail and the problem will go away. It worked
for me.

Good luck.

None of the solutions work for more than a few days. The problem keep coming
back. This mail client is not fit for purpose without a fix from microsoft.

That is true. There is no permanent fix, which is why I'm
recommending that most users save themselves the
aggravation and switch to the new Windows Live Mail.

by 'live' I assume that this is webbased? Not sure I want my personal folders
held on an ms server rather than locally.

That utility only clears the outbox. The OP did not say that the problem message
was stuck in the outbox.
