Ok there was supposedly an update that my IE7 needed or some patch was out or
something i dunno ... so with that said i downloaded it and installed it and
it failed so i restarted my computer as prompted and when pc went to start up
i got this error message . . .

"Windows could not start because the following files is missing or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
You can Attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the
original Setup CD-ROM.
Select 'r' a the the first screen to start repair."

Supposedly at that stupid IE patch it deleted/corrupted this root
folder/directory!!! I need help on how to go about repairing this; I cannot
loose my information on this hard drive i have my photography, school work,
and ect.. on this! I have put in my windows setup disk and tried to do the
repair process, but all it does is take me a DOS type interface that i have
to type in commands that doesn't do crap for me. I do have two hard drives
is there a possible way i could install windows on my other hard drive and
start up with that HD without loosing my information on the other one(i don't
even think i have enough space, bleh!)? Any help/advice is appreciated
thanked in advanced!

thank you for the link ... however i'm having a problem with the guide. out
of the following instructions i can only get a few to work ...
md tmp
copy c:\windows\system32\config\system c:\windows\tmp\system.bak
copy c:\windows\system32\config\software c:\windows\tmp\software.bak
copy c:\windows\system32\config\sam c:\windows\tmp\sam.bak
copy c:\windows\system32\config\security c:\windows\tmp\security.bak
copy c:\windows\system32\config\default c:\windows\tmp\default.bak

I only was successful with the lower 3 getting copied/backuped...
copy c:\windows\system32\config\sam c:\windows\tmp\sam.bak
copy c:\windows\system32\config\security c:\windows\tmp\security.bak
copy c:\windows\system32\config\default c:\windows\tmp\default.bak

The top two...
copy c:\windows\system32\config\system c:\windows\tmp\system.bak
copy c:\windows\system32\config\software c:\windows\tmp\software.bak

Gave me a message of ...
"The File could not be copied."

Can i still go ahead with the repair process or do those two files need to
be baked up for sure? Or is there some other way i can get them copied over?
