When trying to send an email message that has an file
attacment with a .XML extension. Does anyone know where to
start looking for the source of the filtering. Thanks.

Version/mode of Outlook?

Can you not zip the file and send it?

..XML is not restricted by Outlook at all. I'd start looking at
personal firewalls such as ZoneAlarm or anti-virus software, both of
which have the ability to remove attachments.
