AMIPRO

Just upgraded to XP and find it doesn't like a Win 3.1
program called AMIPRO, a word processor originally
produced by Samna and bought by Lotus. XP seems to have
problems with file indexing a 16 bit program. When using
XP search for files, it isn't seeing the Amipro file when
I'm searching for text. Aside from abandoning AMIPRO, (a
terrific program), any solutions or workarounds?

Programs designed for Windows 3.1 are not compatible
with Windows XP.

Consider purchasing the new Microsoft Office 2003 version:

That is not necessarily true.

I have a number of Windows 3.1 programs installed on my computer and
they work just fine under Windows XP Pro.

There are some Windows 3.1 programs that do have problems but this is
not automatically true for all programs of that era.

Just exactly what it the problem that you are having with XP and Ami
Pro?

Is it that the program will not run?

Or is it that the Search utility will not examine Ami Pro document
files?

If it is the second problem then that should be at worst a minor
inconvenience.

Does Ami Pro use a standard file extension for the documents that it
creates, just as Microsoft Word uses the .DOC extension for its
documents? If so then open Windows Explorer - Tools - Folder Options
- File Types and make sure that the file extension is associated with
Ami Pro.

Good luck
