Just wondering, I have a AMD 2600+ but when I checked the Properties of My

Does this mean the the AMD 2600+ does not mean 2.6G Hz but less? Any
comments?

Hi,

The term 2600+ indicates that it is better than Intel Processor by the amout
of 2600 Hz. However, your processor speed is 1.92 GHz. The equivalent Intel
processor is lacking an amount of 2600 when compare with your AMD Processor.

Thanks,

Yes, 1.92 GHz is the correct speed.
Just like my Athlon XP 2000+ is 1.66 GHz.

It's supposed to mean something...but probably just a marketing ploy to make it
sound faster.

It's supposed to signify that your AXP 2000+ is roughly equivalent to a P4
2Ghz.

Pretty much... the thing is, your Athlon XP 2000+ is probably about
equivalent to a 2 GHz or higher Pentium 4 processor; there's a lot more
to a processor's overall "speed" than how fast it goes through clock
cycles. So, to the same extent, the Intel processors' relatively high
clock speeds can be considered a marketing ploy to make them sound
faster than _they_ really are.

You need to set your time zone to your location, it is currently set for the
XP setup default Pacific Time zone.
Double click the time in the try and select the Time Zone tab. When the
time zone is incorrectly set, it causes the time stamp to display
incorrectly in newsgroups as future posts.

AMD and Intel have different internal designs so it's hard to compare like
with like.

Think of it like two different makes of car. They may both have the same top
speed - but they may use different engine RPM and gearbox ratios to achieve
it.

Here is a rather more technical answer...

This doesn't seem OK. In system properties:

A 2400+ should read 2MHz

A 2600 should be just a little over 2Mhz

Are you sure you have set up the processor correctly on the M/B bios.

What M/B are you using?

Hi, You have got your numbers and units mixed up. You are talking GHz here,
not MHz. The AMD Athlon XP 2400+ "Thorton" has 266MHz FSB and runs at 2GHz.
While the AMD Athlon XP 2600+ "Barton" has a 333MHz FSB runs at 1.9GHz.
Nothing is configured wrong. it should run at those speeds.

I mixed up a few parts in there. The 2400+ can also come with the
"Thoroughbred" Core. Why does AMD do it this way, don't know. Check out
their web site.
