Hi All,
Just upgraded to an Atlon 64 3500+ venice and was wondering which is the
best thermal compoud to use on this ?.
Also what would you say is the best heatsink if I was to replace the stock
one ?
Thanx

Best relative to what? This cooler performs about the same or maybe a
little better than the stock cooler but is a lot quieter and has a 3 tab
clip compared to the single tab of the AMD cooler which broke off my cpu.
If you're not planning on major overclocking, then this will work well.

One of the nice things about the 90 Nm Athlon 64's is cool operation. You
don't need to go out and spend extra $$ on cooling solutions. I'd recommend
you stick with the stock HSF and the compound that comes on it. If you want
to reduce noise, consider getting a 70 - 80 mm or 70-92 mm adapter and
fitting a slower, quiet fan (although, I don't find the stock fan to be
annoying).
I'm running a Winchester 3200+ at 2.5 GHz here, using the stock HSF: Room
24C, Case 26C, CPU 33 - 42 C depending on load.

Don't worry about the single tab clip breaking off the HSF retention
bracket, the stock cooler works fine. I have a 3700+ San Diego Core and have
it OC'd to 2.6 Ghz with retail HSF and it works great. Don't waste your
money.

Yeah, don't worry about it breaking. It may not. Then again, mine did.:)
