Hi,

AMD AM2 processor heat-sinks

Does the heat-sinks in the retail version have a fan on it or is it just
a lump of aluminium with fins on it?

Thanks

If you mean the thing that's in the box when you buy a retail AMD
processor, it's a lump of aluminum and copper with fins on it, and a
fan screwed into it.

I don't think you're going to find a retail boxed CPU with a passive
cooling system. If you want something like that, you're going to have
to buy it separately.

The retail HSF will have a fan, as usual.

It might be possible to cool the following CPU passively, using something
like the Zalman Flower.

Processor AMD AthlonT 64 X2 Dual-Core
Model 3800+
Ordering P/N (Tray) ADD3800IAT5CU
Ordering P/N (PIB) ADD3800CUBOX
Operating Mode 32/64
Stepping F2
Frequency 2000Mhz
HT Speed 2000
Voltage 1.025V/1.075V
Max Temp 49-78°C
Thermal Power 35W

Thanks all.

No I wanted a fan on top. I was wondering if I would have to buy it
specifically or if it would come in the box.

Just wanted to make sure that I had all the parts before I begin.

Thanks for the info.
