I was considering the purchase of an AMD 64.But, since XP is a 32 bit
application, would I reap the benefits of a 64 bit cpu on XP?

Thanks

No you will not. The only thing you stand to gain as of right now is speed.
The AMD 64 chips are very fast, even for 32bit apps. Microsoft exects
Windows XP 64Bit for the AMD to be out sometime in 2004.

In a word No. Your AMD 64 wouuld be capable of switching to 32 bit mode
(instead of emulating it) which would make it a very fast 32 bit processor
but there is very little software about for now that would reap the benefit
of rthe expense. If you do go ahead be careful because there are 2 types.
The AMD 64 FX-51 uses a 940 pin socket and the Athlon 64 use 754 pin so make
sure you get the correct mobo.
