AMD 64 vs Intel - Video Editing

Hi,

Which is the better performer when it comes to video editing, especially
converting to/from DivX, editing mpeg's, etc ?

Everything I read regarding the Athlon 64 talks about how great it is for
games.. but I'm not a gamer so I couldn't care less about this.. I wanna
know how it performs for video editing and possibly 3D rendering, etc..

Is 64 bit gonna give me any real advantage for such tasks or is P4 the
better option ? (I must admit I have always been an Intel fan.. everything
I've owned has always been Pentium/Celeron)

I emphasise I'm just interested in performance when it comes to the above..
I don't plan on fancy graphics cards or games..(I'm not looking to overclock
either)

Regards,
Chris

Using 64 bit software, the Opteron looks great for rendering.

With 32 bit software, the P4 seems to have the lead running some
video applications. The 64 bit Xeon doesn't seem so impressive,
and getting stuck with a 32 bit processor when you use the pc for
multimedia doesn't seem like a wise thing to do.
