Am I using the Tasks feature correctly?

Hello:

When someone sends me an email asking me to do something, I drag it to the
task folder to create a task. When I'm either done or need to notify the
requester of an update, I send them a Status Report from the task toolbar.
However, this doesn't seem to stay tied to the original task so I can track
all communications related to the task.

Am I doing something wrong?
 
The other user should send you a task request instead of an e-mail message
for this to work properly.
