Am I Connected TWICE To The Net?

My home network consists of a high speed cable modem connecting to a router
(NetGear RT311) with a straight through CAT 5 connection to the 8th port of
a (EZXS88W) Ethernet switch (not the Uplink port.... although there's a long
printed line running between the labels of these two ports suggesting
there's some sort of relationship). Three computers then plug into three
other ports of this switch; a WIN 95, WIN 98 SE, and the new WIN XP Home
Edition that I just added to this network with the help of someone here.

I'm concerned about finding TWO connections the XP machine (it's not on the
others).
One is the LAN that's working fine. The
other is a "1394 Connection" which shows it "enabled" through a "1394 Net
Adapter". This one shows no activity but is labeled "Enabled".

Q1) What is this and is this an open link
that can threaten my security?
Q2) If it's something that shouldn't be there, how do I get rid of it?

its for a firewire port, and assuming you have one, then it should be there

Firewire? Don't know what that is. I assume you can't tell from the info I
gave about the hookup?

Nope. Nothing like that plugged into the machine.

Any idea what else it might be?
