Always ask before opening this type of file

Has anyone ever had a problem opening up desktop url shortcuts?? Everytime
I try and open a shortcut url from the desktop it brings up a warning
stating some files can contain virus info and can harm computer. The check
box at the bottom which says Always ask before opening this type of file is
greyed out and cannot be unchecked. I am using IE 6.0 and just started to
have this problem.

I did just install the latest version of Java Runtime software.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Bob, open a folder like my documents and go tools>folder options>file types.

Hitting "U" when the list appears should enable you yo find the URL
extension. With it highlighted hit the advanced button and see if the
"Confirm after download" checkbox can be unchecked. Don't know for sure if
this will help but the results from that might helps someone else make
suggestions.

Dear Charlie,

Thanks for the tip. I tried what you had mentioned and no luck. I am using
Win 2k and unfortunately there was not advanced option. I did use the only
available button which was restore and then re-associated the the URL with
Internet Explorer and still no luck. I guess I will have to live with the
fact that IE 6 on my machine doesnt allow for URL's on the desktop.
Thanks for your response, I appreciate your time!
