Alt Key+Number To Insert Symbols

For years, I have used Alt-20 to insert a paragraph symbol (pilcrow) and
Alt-21 to insert a section symbol. Now, all of a sudden, those keyboard
shortcuts don't work any more. Does anybody out there know how I turned this
feature off? How can I turn it back on?

I'm running Office 2003 and Windows XP Professional, SP2. I don't know if
it matters, but just a few days ago, our IT people changed my e-mail program
from Lotus Notes to Outlook. The change might have come at the same time as
that upgrade.

You can use the Character Map (Windows) to see the codes (including
Unicode).
