Not only can I not burn these Illustrator files; I can't delete them from the
temp file. So, I'm stuck - can't burn 'em, can't delete 'em. They just stay
there despite all my efforts.

Have you rebooted and tried again? It just sounds like the files in
question are in use, most likely by something running in the background; a
process, or just a hung app -- the easiest way to free them up may just be
to reboot.

You can also maybe try using SysInternals' Process Explorer to see if there
are any processes running relating to Illustrator (or to the files at all).
I've often found it can kill programs/processes that Task Manager can't:

If you run into something that Process Explorer can't kill you can try using
PSKill, also from SysInternals:

Hope this helps...

Yes, I have rebooted several times over the past few days. I have been able
to burn Photoshop files past these Illustrator files so I'm sure there is
some kind of protection going on but what confounds me. The files are not in
use by anyone else. This is a home computer and my husband wouldn't have a
clue how to use these files. I have since tried other Illustrator files and
they hang also.
Thanks for your sugesstion - I'll give it a whirl.
M.
