"already running!"

For several days, I find that a little window suddenly
pops up on my screen that simply says "already running!"
I just click on the "x" and it goes away, but then it
comes back some time later. And when I leave my computer
for any length of time, those little windows accumulated
on top of one another so that I have to close a dozen or
so of them when I get back to my desk before I can do
anything else on my computer. What's up?

What screen saver are you using? Check your Scheduled Tasks in control
panel to see if you have anything set in there.

.
I was using the My Pictures Slideshow screen saver, but I
have changed that now to the standard Windows XP. \

The only things in the "scheduled tasks" were two items
place there, it seems, by Symantec -- one weekly and one
every 5 minutes.

Now what?

Suspect the task that is scheduled to run every five minutes. What
specifically is it? Disable the task and see if that eliminates the
message.
