Alphabetical Physician Rotation Roster for Unplanned Leaves

I work in a hospital setting. The doctor I work for has asked me to come up
with an alphabetical roational roster for the doctors to provide coverage
when one of them calls in sick. I have 8 doctors names to work with. The
suggested plan would be that the first physician on list would be called for
coverage, if that physician is not there, the second physician on the list
would be called, and so on until someone is reached. Subsequently, if there
is another unplanned absence the following day, the seond physician in the
list would be contacted first to provide coverage for the absence. The
process being that the first doctor on the list is not always called first to
provide unplanned coverage. Im not sure how to develop such a roster, as
well as being able to keep track of what doctor provided coverage last. Can
someone help me? Please make it a simple process? Thanks Pearl

Here's how I'd do it:

1. Make a list of the eight doctors in alphabetical order by last name, each
name in a separate paragraph.

2. Copy/paste the list eight times (so that you have the doctors' names nine
times)

3. Select the text and use Table | Convert | Text to Table, separating at
paragraphs and specifying 9 columns. This will give you a table with each
row starting with a different doctor.

4. Delete the last column, where the first doctor will be repeated.

5. When you call, start with row 1, calling doctor A. If unavailable, call
doctor B, and so on. When you reach one that is available, circle the name.

6. The next time, start with row 2, calling doctor B and so on, but skipping
the doctor who provided coverage the prevoius time.

Alternatively, you could just make an eight-column, eight-row table of the
doctors' names from A to H in each row. If doctor A provides coverage the
first day, his name would be circled (or you could just X out his entire
column), so he wouldn't be called first for the next seven days anyway.
