How do I alpha sort the TOC which is built from HEADER1 data within a
procedures manual created with a downloaded MS template?

The TOC is created automatically and reflects the correct page numbers.
However, it is sorted by page number, and I need it to be sorted
alphabetically by subject "header data" to be more useable.

I only use HEADER1 formatted data; no other header types are used.

Thank you,

What you are describing is an index rather than a TOC.

I discovered a work-around that makes this easy.

After creating the TOC, select all entries except the first entry. Then use
Table/Sort to alphabetize all of the entries...except the first entry. Select
the first entry and manually drag it to the correct location.
