Allowing a program write permissions to a folder.

I'm sorry if this is the wrong place but I'm new to XP Pro,
so I figured I would ask here first. I didn't have any luck
with the search function and googling didn't work so here
it goes.

I'm having trouble with a download utility called GetRight.
I think the problem is that the program doesn't have write
access to it's own folder. It requires write access to the
folder it is installed to (//Program Files/Getright/)
according to Getright's FAQ. I'm not sure how to do this in
XP.

The folder is marked as partially read only (filled in box
as opposed to the check mark) when I go to properties. No
files under that folder (or any sub folders) have the read
only attribute (although the subfolders themselves are also
boxed (again not checked)). When I try to remove the read
only attribute ("for this folder and all subfolders"), I
don't get an error message, but when I close the properties
window and re-open it, the read only box is filled in again.

If anyone could tell me how (or point me to a place that
will) to give a program (process?) write privlages to a
folder (or in general if nessacary).

Oh, and yes I'm running the program from the adminastrator
account and I only need to run it from that account.

Thank you in advance.

Clarification-I'm using the NTFS file system.

Well, ****ing good for you, eh? And what possible value does that statement

And that's a reason to go easy on you, is it? Learn what newsgroups are for,
which ones are appropriate for your problem, then write a brief, NOT
VERBOSE, overview of the issue. Take the third link in my signature.
Toodle-pip! And don't come back until you learn to post.

I'm sorry, what I should have said was that I wasn't sure
if my question was basic enough to ask here or it needed to
be asked on microsoft.public.windowsxp.security_admin.

My appologies if my post was long, however I was trying to
"Be explicit about the question have". My statments
were at least somewhat percise. I wanted to give as much
information as I thought would be needed.

Other than the first line, what else should I have left out
or rewriten?

Thank you, but I'm not having a trouble with Windows
Update. I probally should have stated this in my original
question seeing how I came across this answer many times
while I was trying to solve my problem (The program will
not crash right after startup if it lacks write permissions).
