Hi,

I'm running XPHome and just intalled two new programs, and the second one
does not show up on the Start\All Programs menu. It's as if the menu has
run out of room. By the way, this is while in the new XP style Start
Menu. Specifically...

When I click Start, All Programs, I get two long, vertical menus of
programs. At the very bottom of the second (far right) menu are the two
programs I just installed. The first of the two is the last one on this
menu that I can fully see. The second of the two does not appear, and
the only reason I know it's there is because when I roll my mouse over
the bottom of the menu, it's description shows up.

I'm wondering if I install anymore programs if they'll show up, and I do
have more programs to install.

Help.

Sincerely,
Bruce

Is this of assistance?

Rearranging the Start Menu
Right click Start button
Select Explore and/or Explore All Users.
Then open the Programs folder.
Create new subfolders then rearrange shortcuts.
OR
You can also configure your programs list to scroll which results in one
large column.
Right-click the Start button
Go to Properties
Click the Customize button.
Click the Advanced tab.
Scroll through the list until you see the item "Scroll Programs".
Check that and hit OK.

sorry to hijack this thread but i have a problem perhaps related to this ...
i seem to have no "all programs" in my start menu. i have done some
tweaking since getting this computer (with XP home installed) and seem to
remember having an "all programs" way back when. do i need it and if so,
where the heck did it go? thanks so much, dan

Taurarian,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, that method does work, as does using the
classic view or eliminating some shortcuts that I never use (AOL for
Broadband, New Office Document), but I'd like to get to the bottom of
this before using a work around.

I was a little extreme in my statement when I said the program doesn't
even show up on the menu. It does, but all that I can see is the very
top of it's icon, about 1/16", and the row that it's on is colored light
beige because it's a newly installed program.

Sincerely,
Bruce

Well, I just installed another program group, which forced a third panel of
programs to be created, with this new group in the new panel. Also, the
previously barely visible program at the bottom of the second panel is now
completely visible. I see what is needed is to get the three panels to
move up the screen about 1/4" inch. There's plenty of room, but I just
don't know why it's just a little bit low.

I have tried adjusting the screen size a little, but no joy. Oh, well.
I'll live with what I have.

Hi Dan, have no idea why it's not showing if you haven't removed it. Perhaps
you can use this reg edit to bring it back - note that it has both enable
and disable in it:
This restriction is used to remove the "All Programs" button which displays
a list of all the installed applications.
Start>Run>Regedit
You have to find or create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value,
called "NoStartMenuMorePrograms" and set it according to the value data
below.
Example:
User Key:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\
Explorer]
System Key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\
Explorer]
Value Name: NoStartMenuMorePrograms
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: (0 = default, 1 = disable button)
Exit your registry, you may need to restart or log out of Windows for the
change to take effect.
Note: This setting only applies to the Windows XP Start Menu, not the
Classic Start Menu.

Note you can save the registry key first by:
On the File menu, click Export.
In the File name box, type SaveKey, and then click Save.
Or create a system restore point prior to editing.
Note: If the registry key is not there, you can simply create one by going
edit > new.
