I posted about this couple of days ago, but i might have got a bit
longwinded, try and keep it shorter this time, when i go to start- all
programmes, the all programmes list doesnt show the proper icons for the
particular programmes , most of them have changed to look like thumbnail
folder views, how did this happen and how can i get it back to normal, thanks

Poppy,

There is a utility, free, I might add, that will resolve your problem.
Go to the following web site;

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

Download "Power Toys for Windows" and install. After installation
select "Tweak UI" and use the "repair" function at the bottom of the
list and be sure "Repair Icons" is displayed in the caption box. :')

rebuild icons in the box, so i clicked repair now , and ok, but it didnt
work, i also tried the repair my music icon because the little music note has
vanished from there and i cant get to put it back as there is no customize
option on that one, but thanks for your help

Poppy,

Do you have a System Restore point prior to the problem? If so, then
try using it and see if the problem is resolved.

If you are unfamiliar with System Restore, see the following site for
instructions;

(same site just a shorter link) :-?

Not sure when it changed , i dont get on pc every day, as i work and the
teenage darlings i have are on it most of the time, it was one day a few
weeks ago i noticed it looked different,its not affecting the performance of
the pc, but we have a lot of programmes in the list , and i used to look for
the icon of the one i wanted as it was easier than going down the list, i do
know how to use sytem restore but i wouldnt know how long to go back and dont
want to change anything else, my friend was telling me hers is the same ,
dont know if updates may have done it. thanks for your help
