You need to be running the ATI TV program as your capture source and then
have a recording program that can "see" that source. It's more than just
having the wire connected.

I was just looking at the web site for Sonic MyDVD. Under the "System
Requirements" they give the following info

"Requirements for capture =
DV camera or capture device (via IEEE-1394/FireWire/i.Link interface)" .

If this statement is taken literally, it sounds like the ATI-7500 may not
work with that software. I ran into the same thing trying to use Adobe
Premiere with my ATI=7500. It has the same requirement.

There is a freeware program called "VirtualDub" that is easily available
for download. It captures to an AVI file just fine with the 7500. Of
course, you can use ATI's own recorder which is built into the MMC
software. I have tried several different programs for capturing from a
VCR to a DVD using the ATI-7500. My favorite turned out to be .....

..... a combination of the following 3 programs ...

"Ulead DVD Movie Factory 2" (for capturing)
"TMPGEnc" (for trimming and cutting .. freeware)
"TMPGEnc DVD Author" (for preparing and burning the DVD)

I like Ulead DVD Movie Factory for capturing because it captures the
video as an MPG file for either VCD or SVCD or DVD. For VHS tapes I use
VCD MPG files because they are a lot smaller being 352x240 with a 29.97
frame rate and 44,100 sound. With VHS tapes, this is adequate for my
purposes. I then use TMPGEnc to do any trimming or cutting that may be
needed. When you try to burn to a DVD. most software (including Ulead DVD
Novie Factory) will automatically convert the MPG file to DVD standards
which are 720x480 with 48,000 sound. This makes it take up a lot more
space on the DVD. TMPGEnc DVD Author will write it to DVD without
converting to a larger file plus it lets you add menus. Some standalone
players may have trouble playing this smaller VCD format from a DVD
media, but mine works fine with it. I had a collection of old Doris Day
movies on VHS tapes. I was able to put 4 movies on each DVD by using this
technique.

One other note ... make sure that ATI's software is not running when you
use another capture program. It apparently will only allow one program to
have access to the signal at any given time.

Good Luck,

Clark
