All CDs ejected

I wish I could be more specific, but a neighbor asked me if I knew what
causes his CD Player (internal) to eject back every CD that he inserts.
All I could get out of him is:
1. the first time it failed was when he tried to install a newer version of
McAffee's anti-virus program.
2. he rebooted and still would not accept the CD for installation.
3. he claims that ALL CDs behave that way.
4. he had an older version of McAffee installed but could not tell me if he
ever updated the virus definitions since he purchased it a couple of years
ago.

I wish I could tell you if he really is on WinXP or not, I did not have time
to ask.
I suggested that maybe a virus or adware could be causing the problem. So I
told him to run a virus scan (free) online and also download AdAware to check
his system as well.
I am still waiting for the results of his efforts, although he is
experienced enough to accomplish just these tasks.
Maybe somebody could give me a hint as to where to look for the
hardware/software or possible virus problem. I will appreciate it.

If his CD player has failed and can not read any media inserted, the default
is to eject the disk. Take a look to see if the CD player is recognized,
and go from there.

A mechanical failure after installing software?
There is a virus that causes CDs to eject.

If the cd’s are been ejected (like you said) as soon as he puts them
in, I would say that it’s most likly becasue of hard ware failur of
the CD-ROM drive, your naighbor will robably have to buy a new one.

I had this problem with an optical drive with exchangeable faceplates.
You could fit either black, silver or beige to match your case. One of
the faceplates was very slightly bent ,and with this fitted every CD was
ejected when the drive was horizontal. With the drive held vertically it
worked fine! I switched to another faceplate and have had no problems
since.
