Alignment Sheet Cancel

With my HP PSC 1510, an alignment sheet is printed every time the printer
is turned on
unless the sheet is scanned and also there are two working carts, black
and color. My color
cart is not working, so an alignment sheet prints when the printer is
turned on. But when
I pushed the "cancel" button on the printer as soon as the printer is
turned on, the alignment
sheet was not printed. However, this happened only once. When I
"cancelled" a second and
third time, the alignment sheet printed. Comments?

With the majority of this series of printers both cartridges must be in working
condition for the alignment process to complete.
I have heard that with some models you can cancel the operation but I have not
personally seen this. Using a working colour cartridge will solve the problem
of course.

Yes, a new color cart. I was hoping for a no-cost workaround. When I
successfully
cancelled the alignment sheet I thought that Xmas had come early. when "cancel"
failed after that, I knew there was a lump of coal in my Xmas stocking.
