I am new to Excel and was practicing with a worksheet. I wanted only to
place a $ sign at the first number in the column. When I go to the next
line without using a $ sign and type only my number the alignment is
slightly off to the right. For example: $ 91, 000
9,000

How can I correct this?
Thanks,
CJ

use Format, Cells, Custom to find out what the format is
for the cell with the $ sign that you created with format, cells, number
you want the same ending in your other format.

Use of an underscore indicates space holder that is as wide
as the character that follows. The chart at
http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/formula.htm#GetFormat
may help to show you what you are looking for. Certainly installing
the GetFormat user defined function would help you with many
similar problems.
