AIW 9700 TV VOLUME?

SPECS:
WinXP
Composite cables connected directly to digital cable box
Catalyst 5.6/MMC 9.08/latest encoder drivers

PROBLEM:
MMC TV version 9.08 only allows me to hear the "max" volume at about 1/4
(just guessing) of the volume that 8.1 allowed. In setup, I checked the
TV Tuner tab, and the volume increases (just snow because it is trying
to display from the coax input) then decreases when I switch back to the
composite connection!

According to some Web discussions, most people who experienced sound
problems just needed to check their mixer. I maxed both play and record
levels in the mixer plus all the settings in Control Panel. Has anyone
else had this problem?
