AGP no go PCI OK in WinXP ???

FIGTREES

I just changed the same motherboard (A7V8X-X got toasted) that
previously had the ATI Radeon 8500 in it. I just upgraded the CPU to a
AMD 3200+ with Cosrair XMS 3200 ram. Now the only video cards that
allow the system to boot are PCI. Any AGP cards won't boot. I have
tried my Matrox 550 as well as the ATI and have had the same problems.
Any idea why the PCI ancient cards work but the AGP don't ? I have
installed the current VIA VT400 4in1 drivers without any imporvement .

.... Any AGP cards won't boot.

"Won't boot"? Does the monitor come on? Will it POST? Can you get into BIOS?
Do the fans come on? Can you boot off CD, floppy or Safe Mode? I am trying
to find if this is hardware or software issue.

Maybe your ATI is fried, and has now fried your AGP port on the motherboard?
Did you plug in the ATI or the Maxtrox first on the new motherboard?

Try the 8500 in another PC (one you can afford to break), to see if it works
at all.

I had similar problem after updating video card driver.... would only set
video to PCI..... answer was to insert the mobo drivers & reinstall them.
