New Motherboard fitted, Now installing the Graphics Card (Old one though it is

wrong way around....the actual VGA port part of the Card is facing opposite way
to the rest of my I/O devices) What is going on??!!!

You didn't do your research. The newer board has an AGP 8x slot. The
older card runs at a different voltage and won't work with the newer
board. Buy a new video card.

So I've got to buy a newer graphics Card as well. Why do they make them seem
like any AGP graphics card will fit when they wont. I feel fiddled as you only
find out after its too late. Will only 8X graphics Cards fit? Can anyone
recommend one to me and somewhere that will supply and deliver before xmas.

It sounds like the one you have is several years old. Over time,
standards change. I think a 4x card could fit, as it should run at the
same voltage as the 8x cards. However, I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE you to get
other people to confirm this, as I'm not entirely sure. Regarding
delivery before Christmas: where do you live (as in
Continent/Country/State)? Have you considered purchasing from a local
shop? You can get some good buys at local shops if you call around (or,
as I do, look at their websites).

Hi,

I am loathsome to reveal that I fell upon the same curse as yourself last
week when I ordered a Biostar mb that indicated a 4X/8X AGP card acceptance.
Also from Newegg I also ordered a 4X AGP Rage mobility made by Sapphire
(ATI subsidiary) for $19 and was stupified to find that the card wasn't
capable of being seated in the 8X/4X slot.

SAPPHIRE Rage "Mobility", 8MB SDR, 4X AGP, OEM
Specifications:
Chipset/Core Speed: RAGE MOBILITY/Not Specified
Memory/Effective Speed:8MB SDR/Not Specified
BUS: AGP 1X/2X/4X

To this moment I still don't understand how it's being advertised as 4
X card and won't work; but it clearly has a different physical make up.
Maybe there are 1X/2X/4X cards that have one known bus variety, and 4X/8X
that have another known bus variety. On the newer 4X/8X cards there is a
little foot at the end of the card that gets locked onto the slot. Not so
with earlier typ 1X or 2X cards.

So last week I ordered an
Asus 9200SE/T, RADEON 9200SE, 64MB DDR, 64-bit, TV-Out, 8X AGP, RETAIL
Specifications:
Chipset/Core Speed: RADEON 9200SE/200MHz
Memory/Effective Speed:64MB DDR/333MHz
BUS: AGP 1X/2X/4X/8X
costing $49 and it fit the slot fine.

Since then I've taken to printing out a picture of the card and
compared it to the 8X/4X slot that it's supposed to fit to have a better
probability of the card fitting.

I'd still like to know what kind of slot that Rage Mobility card is
supposed to really fit.

So this educational lesson cost me less than $20. Anyone have use for
that cutiepie Rage Mobility card for say eight dollars and shipping?

"Mobility" denotes that it is for laptop motherboards. Are you building a
laptop? lol.

Time to upgrade your video card, I'm afraid. Yours is NOT compatible with
modern motherboards.

They don't. That there are differences between the AGP verions is well
known. With the coming of the new AGP 3 (AGP 8x) motherboards support
for the 3.3v AGP cards has been stopped.

AGP 1.0
3.3v keyed
1x, 2x

AGP 2.0
3.3v keyed
1.5v keyed
3.3 and 1.5v (AGP UNIVERSAL)
1x, 2x, 4x

AGP 3.0
0.8v keyed ?
1x, 2x, 4x, 8x

2x/4x will *probably* also fit. But check that with your motherboard
manual.
Can anyone recommend one to me

OK, since you don't mention any price limit or brand preference here's
my choice: Sapphire ATi Radeon 9600 XT 256 MB. (roughly 185 EURO). This
card just shipped fairly recently and will fit all recent motherboards.

As funny as it may sound, the OP is correct. It is indeed a
Rage Mobility AGP card - http://tinyurl.com/238tm

There's been a recent and disturbing trend to produce discrete
desktop AGP and PCI video cards from mobile solutions with
on-die/package memory. I've run across several desktops with
S3 SuperSavage IX AGP cards... (It's just a board with a lone
video chip, BIOS chip and a VGA connector; no RAM chips!)

How odd. You never know, these days! Looks like a VERY old AGP form
factor. The pins match an old Diamond Speedstar 8MB card, that I have
laying around. My guess, then, would be that his motherboard is an AGP
4X/8X board. i.e. does not support 3.3V cards. Hence the fact that it will
not fit.

Have ordered two radeon 9200 128Mb Graphics Cards including delivery £80
guaranteed before christmas. Costs I didnt need but I guess its done now and I
wont be upgrading for a while yet with the way I use the machines.
