agent.exe running every 45 seconds

While my system is idle (laptop), I noticed that the cooling fan has been
coming on every 45 seconds or so. I checked the processes running and system
idle was showing about 96%. Then when the fan came on "agent.exe" sprouted
up showing 100% CPU usage. It ran for 5 seconds or so, then stopped and
"agent.exe" disappeared from the processes list. This repeats every 45
seconds or so as long as the system is on (or not in standby mode) What is
this process? Is it possible to stop this from happening? I've noticed that
this also happens while I'm using the system causing whatever I'm doing to
temporarily stop because "agent.exe" is using 100% of the CPU.

Just a thought but is there anything in your bios controlling temperature and
speed of motherboard and cpu? If so disable it all and see if that helps.

There are several possibilities. Search for agent.exe and look on the
version tab in properties to see if there is any info on the vendor. Take a
look at some of the hits in this google search.

Thanks for the tip Rock; I had already done a file search for the process
but was unable to link it to any application. I followed your link to google
and did a Pcpitstop quick search. That linked it to Installshield; an
updater for my PDF program. I simply stopped Installshield from trying to
find programs to update. The system now stands idle until I need it. This
is also what was keeping my system from automatically going into suspend when
idle, as I had previously set it to do. Many thanks again.

Forte's 'agent.exe' is a news reader application. On my comp it only
runs when I tell it to do so and is actually a handy news reader for
certain situations. Its memory requirements when running are modest.
Your copy has obviously run amok and needs removed.
