I have 2 PC's, one is anHP notebook and the other is homebuilt. Both are tied to a hub and indepndently access the internet thru the hub. I'm trying to share files between teh two computers, but they can't see each other.

Your message subject says "router", but you message body says "hub".
Which type of device do you have? What's its make and model number?
The procedure for networking the computers is different for those two
devices.

Denny,

Make and model of the hub, please? Can both PCs simultaneously access the
internet? What internet service do you have?

From each computer, check connectivity:
1) Ping the other by name.
2) Ping the other by ip address.
3) Ping itself by name.
4) Ping itself by ip address.
5) Ping 127.0.0.1.
Report success / failure of each of 10 pings.

Please provide ipconfig information for each computer.
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" into the command
window - Open c:\ipconfig.txt in Notepad, copy and paste into your next post.

Are you running both Client for Microsoft Networks, and File and Printer Sharing
for Microsoft Networks (Local Area Connection - Properties), on both computers?
Do you have shares setup on both?

Are you running NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (Local Area Connection - Properties - TCP/IP
- Properties - Advanced - WINS) on both computers?

Make sure the browser service is running on both. Control Panel -
Administrative Tools - Services. Verify that the Computer Browser service is
started.

Cheers,
Chuck
