Hello All,

I have a P4 running Xp Home edition. It was running fine until it
suddenly froze. The keyboard and mouse stopped operating and I had to
power it off.

Now it won't reboot. It appears not to have even started the boot
sequence and no message is displayed on the monitor. As I power on the
system, I just notice the fan noises. The HD light blinks once but no
attempt to boot.

The system has 1 HD, 1 DVD drive, 1 CD-RW, and a floppy. I put a floppy

into the driver to check if it would attempt to boot but it didn't even

get there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

No response at all on boot is generally a hardware failure. There are too many options to really
identify the your problem from here. But I would guess, from your description, that you have a RAM
memory chip failure. At least I would start there if you are going to do your own repair. If you
are not a repair type person, I suggest you take it to a repair shop (But not one of the big box
ones like Best Buy or Circuit City). Note, you are going to have to have spare parts to do the
diagnostics as this is typically a part swap out game. A good tech shop will have these parts to
try.
