After an update things go bad...

My Vista Prem. Home notebook had just done an update about an hour ago, and
WHAM! After it reboots the system locks up, or doesn't respond to normal
function commands. I can not open applications, nor run anything... I even
tried to do a "Ctrl+Alt-Del" to perform a END TASK command, and it doesn't
respond. I had to do a system restore point to bring the system back to
normal.

Any advice on what the problem is, and how to resolve this issue?

Set the Windows Update options to ask you before installing. Determine the
update number from the history there. When it is offered again, rightclick
the item to choose to disable that one.
You could then go back to automatic update if you wish.

Hi Mark L. Ferguson-

I couldn't do that now... the system crashed on me today, and had to restore
the entire computer from my recovery DVD's. Odd that is made it all crash
before I could have saved the most important elements I wanted.

But, I will make an effort to alter the settings like you instructed and see
if that helps?!
