My question is after a typical installation of XP Pro how
much space is used on the hard drive.

I am not asking how much hard drive space you need to run
XP Pro... just how much space is used.

A friend and I have a bet going... he says less than 1.5
gigs and I say closer to 6 gigs. Who's right. Please
help me settle this one.

Thanks,
jdove

System files should be under 2 GB for Windows XP with
everything installed. Applications such as OFFICE,
PHOTOSHOP and scanner/printer apps will of course be in
addition.

He wins. My laptop has a C drive of 2.4GB containing in all 1.6 GB of
files at the moment - of which the Windows folder has 850MB; Program
Files 250. Allow 250 for actual page file (which is on another drive)
and 200 for restore points and you get 1,55 GB (the rest on the drive in
question is third party software). Add in applications and of course
you need more - but that is a basic system size
