Adware

I have just done a complete system scan on my computer with norton anti virus and it has now told me that I have adware (adware.Binet) on my system (8 times) and to let symantec to delete the threat. When I click OK it does not delete this adware problem and then asks me which ones I want to exclude from further scans (I pick none) and then click finish. The next time I run a full system scan the adware problem is still there. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem

You could try the removal instructions on this page:
http://sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.binet.html Or you could try using
a specialized adware removal program like the freeware version of AdAware to
remove it: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/ Update the AdAware
"reference file" before you run it for the first time.

Ian.

Adware.binet is a broswer helper object (BHO) try
removing it with ad-aware or spybot "search and destroy"
if that doesn't help then "BHO Demon" can disable it.
I can't recommend spywareblaster enough it is a must have
these days,Scumware has become big business.Good luck.

A discription of adware.binet can be found here:

Install an antispyware program such as AdAware from Lavasoft. They offer a
downloadable version that is free.

Ad-Aware really is a wonderful tool. Just make sure that, when you download it, you go back frequently for the updates. Many people miss this point and continue to get spyware. The same thing goes for Spybot S&D. Outstanding tool, but ensure that it gets updated just as frequently as your antivirus software and your Ad-Aware.

Updating is important and it seems to work fine for my Spybot.

However when I click to look for updates on my Ad-aware 6.0, they never
seem to have any updates. Anyone know why?

Yes, it is version 6.0 Personal, free for private use. It says just under
initialization status: "Reference file OR 150 05.07.2003 loaded". When I
click on "Check for updates", it says none are available which always
puzzled me, and yes I am online when I check for updates.

Something must not be right in your installation because I have Ad-aware
6 Personal and used it today to update (got the update) and scanned the
drive without problems. Try uninstalling and reinstalling Ad-aware 6.

I think I will re-install it.
