Adware

MS Antispyware (Beta 1) failed to detect two 'severe'files
that 'NoAdware' program discovered:

Cookie VX2/linkreplaceitc

'Imesh' C:\Windows\prefetch\regsvr32.file

Are these items indeed 'severe', and if so, how come MS
Antispyware (beta 1) missed them?

Regsvr32 Is a genuine Microsoft Windows process and is
used to register/unregister dll's and ActiveX entries
into the registry, Its fine to delete it from prefetch
folder if you wish. Have you ever had iMesh installed
(File Sharing Program)

you can clear prefetch files by going to start menu and
run and typing

prefetch

press enter then delete the Regsvr32 file in this folder,
The main thing is don`t delete Regsvr32.exe in System32
folder. Prefetch files are there to help programs
load/open quicker but they will be replaced in prefetch
when they are used again ,

NoAdware was on the rogue antispy lists although it has
now been removed but my own personal opinion is any
application that makes it onto the Rogue list shouldn't
be used or trusted even if they do get removed at a later
date, This is just myown view of this so I appreciate it
wouldnt be shared by everyone,

See here for information on that:

spyware.htm#naw_note

Cookies are not a severe threat as they contain no code,
they are just strings of text and numbers, They are more
a privacy concern than a spyware threat, You can clear
cookies by going to tools on the top bar then Internet
Options then press "Delete Cookies", You will lose all
cookies this way so you may need to retype passwords on
some sites, The Alternative is to use Spybot Search &
Destroy or Adaware SE as they will remove cookies, MSAS
in its current form doesnt scan for cookies but it may be
added at some stage.

Microsoft Antispyware does not scan for or selectively remove cookies in the
builds distributed thus far.

Imesh is a commercial peer to peer sharing program.

I can't tell whether the detected item really is a part of a leftover Imesh
install on your system, or a false positive. In any case, it is not part of
an active application running on your system, if that is the only detected
item.

Noadware has historically had a problem with excessive numbers of false
positives. Current versions--3.0 and above--should have rectified this, but
this might be a remaining example--can't tell from this evidence.

No AV/Anti-Spyware program is 100% effective. Over
several years of doing spyware removal, I've came to the
conclusion that the best solution is using a "cocktail"
of programs. I use Ad-Aware, MSAS, Spy-Bot, Spyware
Doctor, AVG, and AVast. These are all free programs. By
running all of these programs, I feel confident that I
removed all viruses and spyware.
