Adware problem

Most recently I had a hijacker or a trojan attack on my computer while I was
involved in internet gaming. When I loaded back to the desktop, it was
replaced by a add that flashed " WARNING; your computer has been infected by
a spyware protect yourself now" this was unmistakably a advertisement for the
desktop was like a browser link. when clicking on it, it would take me to a
page selling a program that would erase all the history on the computer. When
I tried to track this program to the source it showed new added files to the
windows main folder. the file in question was a desktop.html that would
override anything that was saved as a background on my computer. though
looking at the files that were added roughly at the same time. There were
readme files in the windows that mentioned Symantec, which oddly enough is
thecompany that produces Norton anti-virus, whether this is linked to my
problem, I cant be sure. Though I ran a series of programs to identify and
destroy this infestation. The program that were included were CSWshredder.
ad-aware, Spy-Bot search and destroy and several other programs involving
removals of back door demons, Trojans, and other computer nasty’s. These
didn’t find anything. when I deleted the desktop. html the advertisement that
replaced the background wallpaper disappeared but its trace programing
remained. the desktop no longer exist for a browser like window overrides and
the computer suffers quality degradation in its place. how do I remove this
threat to my windows when all other methods failed including a role back that
fixes temporarily, but only temp for the desktop highjacker return in its
pre-deleted state. Which to me indicates that it has a install file on my
computer that I have not been able to locate. please help me find a way to
restore my computer and eliminate this intrusion upon my windows program.
without making me reinstall windows.

Thank You for your Help.

You've done a great job of trying to root out the malware. Try the
instructions here on the SilentRunners site:

http://www.silentrunners.org/sr_cwsremoval.html

Make sure you have updated all removal tools and av and are scanning in
Safe Mode.
