Advice regarding Windows Media Player

I installed the codes and played a DVD movie. To my disappointment, there
were stutters in the picture and the sound. I tested the same disk in my
home DVD player and it plays beautifully.
What do I suspect? Could the cause be in the DVD player hardware? Maybe the
laser? Or is it possible that the codes did not get properly installed?
I intuitively doubt that. I would think that either it plays DVDs or it
doesn't.
A flaw in WMP itself?
What would be some expert advice to troubleshoot this problem?

Try closing down some un-needed background applications, DVD needs all the processing power it can get to run smoothly!
