Has anyone had experience with these products ? The goal is a dual core
AMD64 machine running Linux (capable of running WinXP).

Motherboard - one of :
GIGABYTE GA-K8N-SLI Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX
MSI K8N SLI-F Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX

CPU - AMD ATHLON 64 4200+ X2 (Manchester core)
Memory - 2x Micron 512MB PC2-3200 DDR2-400 512MB ECC REGISTERED
(need to check on reg/non reg)

HDD - 250G Western Digital Caviar 7200 SATA2 16MB WD2500KS

Video - ATI Radeon X800 256MB

DVD burner ? (Want dual layer capable)

The proper memory is unbuffered PC3200 DDR (not DDR2). Check the individual
mainboards as to whether they support ECC. It may be significantly more
expensive than non-ECC, and more limited in availability of high-performance
memory (unimportant if you're not overclocking). The restriction to DDR is
due to the Athlon64 itself, rather than the mainboard.

nForce4 mainboards from Asus or DFI could also be worth a look, although the
DFI boards are mainly popular with overclockers. (I'm fond of my old Asus
A8V Deluxe, but it's an AGP board, using the Via K8T800Pro chipset.)

Address scrambled. Replace nkbob with bobkn.
