Advice needed

Hi all,
First of all, why I don't usually get a response for the questions I place
in this newsgroup? It's like as if it's not enough that vb.net is way
different than regular vb, but also developers who are trying their very best
to update their knowledge to vb.net don't get enough support. I bought books,
I'm trying to learn more about this .net thing, but people like me who are
still in "the knowledge update stage" need more help. Are there other
newsgroups or resources I can use to get answers to my questions? Please
advise.

This newsgroup is just answered by developers like yourself. So if no one
knows the answer, no one will answer it. This isn't an official way to get
MS support, though MS people do read it on occassion.

The best way to get answers is to search Google groups, because odds are,
especially when you are starting out, is that this questions has already
been asked (and probably many many times). Your best bet is to read past
posts and learn from that.

Additionally, when you do ask questions, your post should include all the
relevant information, be very specific, and include the relevant sample
code. Many questions are ignored when the poster is too vague and doesn't
provide enough information.

Actually, this group is also an official way to get help from MS--it's
not only peer-to-peer support.

For MSDN subscribers, MS guarantees a response to their posts within 2
business days.

Doesn't necessarily mean MS will respond, but they will review the
thread and if nobody else has responded, then they will. In order to
get this support you must be using a registered "no-spam" address.

To me, this support guarantee is worth buying MSDN vs VS.NET alone.

Posters should still do the other things mentioned like searching
google groups but if the question is not answered there and is not
being answered here, guaranteed support is great.

I concur. It's sometimes difficult though to phrase a question given that
often bits of knowledge required in order to make the question
understandable to another person are exactly those bits of knowledge the
question is attempting to solicit! However, being more specific is always a
good idea. Also, learn how to use google properly - most of my questions
are answered with appropriate research. I come here to ask questions I find
difficult to find an answer to in the normal way.

I think actually, the more than coding or technical skills, a programmer is
required to be good at learning and researching answers above anything else.

Every question except one that you have asked since 3 Feb 2005 has one or
more answers on it. It would seem 1 out of 9 without responses is far from
"usually don't"! If anything I would say you usually do!

The only question I see unanswered is on "Setting Parameters for CR". Which
appears to be either an ADO.NET question or possibly a Crystal Reports
question, you may want to ask that one "down the hall" in the
microsoft.public.dotnet.framework.adonet newsgroup if no one answers it
here... I'm not sure what a good Crystal Reports group would be.

NOTE: I guessing that CR means Crystal Reports & not Customer Relations nor
Cute Redhead. ;-)

I didn't realize about the support. I guess it's because I see so few MS
people responding, I just assumed they kind of visit here on occasion.

Thank you all for your help. I just want to say that in some occasions I was
getting a response, but either I had to place the question more than once to
get a response or I get a response that doesn't help and when I repond back
by saying it didn't help I wasn't getting anything. It wasn't the same case
when I was placing a question in the various regular vb newsgroups. But I'll
check out the newsgroups that some of you have recommended. And thanks again
for all your responses.
