Hello all. I was just wondering for gaming such as Flight Simulator 2004,
Black Hawk Down etc. what would be the better budget card to use between the
NVidia FX 5200 128 meg or the Geforce4 MX 440 128 meg? Thanks.

ATi Radeon 9200, or throw in a bit extra money and get something decent like
a Radeon 9600.

Hi Ben,

FS 2004 installs DirectX 9 on your system, and the FX 5200
is a DirectX 9 version card whereas the MX 440 was made
for DirectX 7. So, your best choice will be the FX 5200. :)

I would get the FX 5200 for the reason Jimmy S. gave

Actually, I would consider a Radeon 9600 as the floor (such as Gigabyte's
RADEON 9600 SE which has an SRP of $99 USD).

In the *sible war* between the GeForceFX and the MX 440 128 MB, the FX kicks
da stuffins out of *any* MX. (The FX series are true DX 9 parts, and range
from 5950 Ultra, the top of the FX heap, to the 5200, the bottom of the FX
barrel. They are directly comparable to the Radeon 9600/9700/9800 series,
with the 5200 Ultra matching up against the 9600SE I mentioned earlier, and
are also priced identically.)

With the 5200 and 9600 SE priced identically, I would go with the 9600 SE
for (surprisingly) driver compatibility issues (not just with games, but
with other hardware, particularly Audigy 2 and above sound cards, in Windows
XP).
