Advanced Filtering Criteria

Hi all,

I am using the advanced filter option to filter some
data. One column contains company credit ratings which
are 1 to 3 characters, alpha numeric in format. In the
criteria range under the rating column heading I put in >b
(return any ratings beginning with b or a higher
alphabet); after applying the filter it returns all
ratings beginning with b or any letters of the alphabet
after b, c,d etc. That is exactly the way it should work.
Now on the flip side, I change the filtering criteria to
<b (return any rating of b or a lower alphabet); after
applying the filter the return includes only ratings
beginning with a ratings the filler #. My thinking is
that the if >b returns include ratings beginning with b
and higher alphas, then on the flip side <b should return
ratings beginning with b and lower alphas...
Any ideas?? Thanks in advance

Hi Peo,

I've been using <C and that works, however, <=b does not
work it actually does not filter anything. My real
question though is why two criteria filters that are so
similar (>B & <B) would have different filter results one
which includes things starting with B and one that returns
only ratings starting with A. I don't think I am doing
anything wrong but if you notice something please point it
out. Thanks
