Advanced Dialup/ISDN Debugging Techniques?

I have a job interview soon for a technical support position for
an ISP - mostly helping dialup/ISDN customers with connection
issues. I've done plenty of OS and network support, but only for
Unix. I've uses all flavors of Windows at home and work, though,
and can find my way through most of the Network Settings and minor
troubleshooting, enough to tell what's not working (my machine or
the ISP's).

What are some of the advanced tools/techniques that a support
engineer might use to diagnose network connection issues? What
are the most common problems and solutions? I know "replace the
TCP/IP stack" [used to be] a popular support answer, but that just
sounds like a last ditch effort (comes right before "re-install
the OS ;-)

Hoping to find some websites that explain this as I don't expect
anybody to write an essay on the subject, at least not here. If
you just mention a tool, website, or little known built-in utility
I may have overlooked, that would be extremely helpful.
