Excel 2000 ... I have 1 single stand-alone Column (Q)
where I am trying to get unique records ... Issue is ... I
keep getting the following error message pop-up.

"Extract File Name missing or invalid"

I do not recall ever getting this error message before &
have no clue what it means or why the data or structure is
causing this? I have nothing extraordinary here ... Any
ideas? ... Thanks ... Kha

I haven't seen that error message either. One thought.. Excel assigns the
name "Extract" to the range that the unique list is created in. You might
look at it in Create Names (Ctrl-F3) to see if it's weird or something.

Jim ...

? ... Generally, when I use "Advanced Filter Unique
Records Copy to Another Location" ... I copy to an empty
Column ... This time however, I was selecting ... Copy to
Column(V) & targeted cell V1 ... ? is ... if Cell V1 was
not blank & contained a Text Name different from the
Extract Range Text Name ... Would I get the error
previously posted? Because ... when I deleted the text
value in the "Copy to" Cell (V1) ... Advanced Filter from
Col Q to Col V did its job with no error message ...
Thanks ... Kha

I see what you did, Ken. One thing was that you misquoted the error
message. Or at least I get a different one: "The extract range has a
missing or illegal field name." That through me off but no big deal.

Anyway, the way Advanced Filter works is... if your extract range is empty
it dumps all the source fields to the extract range. But if the extract
range has headings there already, it only dumps the fields that match those
heading. But if it can't match the existng heading to any source data
column header, it generates the error you saw.
