We would like to know the difference between ADSL Modem
and ADSL Router.

It seems that both of them have a ADSL Port and a 10Base-T
Ethernet Port.

Thanks

You are asking in the WRONG location.

The following is the proper place to pose your query; comp.dcom.xdsl

No -- They are not.

| Same thing...

Lemme try that again, before my client does another inadvertant send.

Same thing... unless you need NAT, DHCP, or a firewall. From the point of
view of a regular, non-technical user hooked up to DSL with a win2k box, it
probably doesn't matter.

Still not correct.

Bridges and Routers are NOT the same.

A DSL modem is more or less a bridge spanning Ethernet and telephone wire topologies.

A Router is Ethernet on both sides and Routes a specific (or range) of protocols.

A modem does exactly that. It modulates the data, then de-modulates the data over the telephone wires.

A router again does exactly what it says, it routes traffic.

If you think they are both the same you need to do some homework!

You are both technically correct... but that's not what the question is
about. The original poster asked how to get from A to B. He didn't ask for
any specific requirements, therefore I'm going to assume that he's happy
with what the ISP is going to give him. If its Qwest that is the provider,
it will be a modem (more accurately, a transciever). If its somebody else,
then it may be a router. If its for a 1 box setup where the ISP provides
the scope, it does not matter.

Now, if the original poster has additional requirements, then let him post
them and we can all give an opinion. Chances are, the answer will either be
"router" or "MS Internet Sharing".
