adress bar shortcut doesn't work

my browser/computer has lost the ability to add the www
and .com to the address when i press ctrl + enter. i have
no idea why. i have used this shortcut for years and have
done nothing to my computer to change it. does anyone know
how to reset this ability?
I have run ad-aware and spybot and removed all spyware. I
have run all windows updates and use Zonealarm.

Some program (usually spyware\parasite) may have overridden the URL prefix
setting?
