adobe reader 6.02

Hello

I have been asked to deploy a softwae update to our entire desktop users.
Users are currently using Adobe 5.0 and we would like to upgrade them all to
6.02
Can this be accomplished via a GPO on the computers? Do I need to create a
msi package or script?

Thank you,

Mark Clark

hm, I did have some success... if you go to install acrobat,it unpacks
all the files somewhere. Your task, should you chose to acept it, is to
find the .msi file, and the associated .cab that have been uncompressed,
and go from there...

I stopped rolling it out, and I honestly can't remeber why... I dont
think it worked too well!

Mark,

Yeah, this one is a bit messy. There are a number of 3rd party tools for
packing it for deployment via GPO though. I would do a search for one of
these.

Actually, it is quite simple. Download the .exe file ( make sure that you
click on the 'do not use the adobe download manager; checkbox )and
uncompress it with WinZip. It will give you a bunch of files ( 10 of them,
I think ). You do not need all of them ( IIRC ) but I keep all of them
anyway. One of the 10 files is the .msi file that you need. This is how I
deploy Adobe!

Hm, I'll have to give it another go then :)

Before you proceed, you may want to look at Acrobat Reader 7. It is supposed
to be leaner and faster than 6....

Yes, Adobe Reader 7.0 is already out. It looks like it is a 19MB file ( and
I could not unzip it... ). So, you would have to install it on a system and
then do a search for 'adobe'....they are buried deep somewhere on the hard
drive.

You might want to do search either in this NG or in the Group Policy NG as
I know that I have given the location...but that was probably six months
ago.

suspiciously easy with 7...

run the install, find the msi, "msiexec /a" the .msi, pic a directory, then
add the resulting msi to a gpo and install it.

Tested on a few machines here and seems to be working fine....
