Adobe Pro 9 vs Access - More Information

I incorrectly said Acrobat & should have said Adobe. When I try to open the
file I get the error: Microsoft has encountered a problem & must close. It
also has the check box about "repair & reopen" but this doesn't help. Then
it automatically makes a copy. If I click on the error this is the info that
appears. App Name: msaccess.exe; ModName: ric661k.dll; fDebug: 0; AppVer
11.0.8166.0; AppStamp 46437912; ModVer: 0.3.0.0; ModStamp: 4123aa44; Offset:
002a642.

This information doesn't mean anything to me. I hope someone can make some
sense out of it.

Thanks again for any help.

Sounds to me like an SP3 bug.

There is no - uninstall on SP3 (thanks to Mr Gates).

Best bet would be to use the system restore option to the day before you
installed sp3 and see if that fixes it.

Also have a good read of Chris's answer about front end / back end - this
can also make a mess of things if not done.

I want to thank everyone for their help/suggestions. It appears my MS Office
(& maybe just Access) was corrupt or had a corrupt file. I restored my
computer to a previous date, removed and reinstalled MS Office and my Access
files appears to be working great! Again, I thank everyone.

It appears I spoke too soon. After reinstalling MS Office 2003, I loaded all
of the updates to include SP3. When I came to work this morning, two of my
Access files are again no longer working. So there is obviously something
wrong with SP3. What risks do I run by "not installing SP3"? Is Microsoft
working on this issue/problem?

Any other suggestions, Thanks again for the help/assistance.

I went to the site and downloaded the "hotfix" and put it into the MS Office
folder, that didn't work, so I put it in the MS Office/Office 11 (where it
appears Access lives) and still not success. I have rebooted my computer
each time.

What else can I do or should I do?????????

Thanks,

What do you mean by "didn't work"? Did you get an error? If so, what was the
error?

The response was the same error I've been receiving. It is: "Microsoft has
encountered and problem and must close."

June, you said you "put the hotfix file in the MS Office folder."

Did you "Run" the hotfix download? If you didn't, the hotfix is *not*
installed.

Clif: When I ran it, it asked "where" did I want it to be placed, so first I
put it in the MS Office folder, when that didn't work, I put it in the MS
Office/Office 11 folder, where it appears Access resides. After I do that,
am I supposed to do something else? I rebooted my computer, not sure what
else I should have done.

Thanks,

I believe you are 100% correct. Yesterday when I removed and reinstalled,
without the updates (SP3) the files worked great. When I loaded the updates,
the problem returned. But, am I risking anything but using Access without
SP3?

Thanks,

It's been too long since I installed mine, and I've only done it once,
so I don't recall precisely what the procedure was.

I just re-downloaded it onto my computer and walked through the steps.
When you run the .exe hotfix download all it does is extract the hotfix
files, giving you MSACCESS.msp and a _readme.txt.

You need to execute MSACCESS.msp to install the hotfix. I wasn't sure
what would happen if I attempted it again, and as I said I don't
remember just what happened when I installed it on mine. Most likely, I
just followed the prompts and it installed itself. I do believe I
referred to the file version table in the KB article
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945674 and verified the version numbers
after it installed.

If you search the forum archives (google groups) for SP3 and hotfix
you'll find quite a lot of discussion of the topic.
