Adobe PDFs and Save

I have Adobe Reader 6 which came with XP Pro. As far as I can
remember, ever since I installed (and reinstalled) XP I have had a
little problem with saving PDF files. I click on a link on the net to
download a PDF and it opens in Adobe OK, but, if I then try to save it
I am told that the save failed as I do not have the correct permission.
If, however, I Right Click the link to the PDF and choose Save Target
As, I can then save the file to my PC. Why should one action be
permitted and the other not when both actions would have resulted in
the same thing?

Because the default save location in one to which you do not have the
correct permissions, wheras the location you choose when you do save
target as is one for which you do have permissions?

That would be my first guess, where is it trying to save it to when it
fails?

My documents in general, but, I change it to a specific folder, in fact
the folder I select is the same folder I can successfully save to with
Save Target As. I am the only user on my PC and as far as I know all
folders I am permitted to save to.

Perhaps it is some odd security feature of the PDF file, but, if so it
seems a bit OTT as the last one I had this problem with was a manual
for my monitor. Well, try it yourself, go to
http://www.lacie.com/uk/support/manuals/index.htm
select Colour and elec19_IV_en.pdf [364 KB] then let it download, view
it and see if you can then save it and if not why.

Sounds like you are trying File, Save. Instead use the Acrobat Reader
Save, the floppy icon.

Sounds like you are trying File, Save. Instead use the Acrobat
Reader Save, the floppy icon.

That's what I did, Save Copy using the floppy icon. I tried it from
File too with no luck, the only way I can save it with Adobe is Save As
Text. I can also Save As and select all files and add DOC in which
case I can save it as a doc file, but, without images.

Now that is really weird.
I tried it on one of our network computers (XP SP2 Acro Reader 6) and
had no trouble saving it into My Documents by clicking onto the picture
of the diskette in AcroReader.
Hope somebody else here can help with this.

I used to have this problem. Checking the option "display in browser" within
Adobe solved it.

Ah! I have that unchecked as I've always preferred to have PDF files
displayed in the reader and not in my browser. I can't remember ever
having this save problem with that box unchecked when I used to run
W98. Will check that box and see what happens next time.
